The JD Special is John Dienhart’s original harrow design and has been instrumental in the success of West Coast Footings arena equipment. Though the basic design remains the same, improvements are always forthcoming!  A single tire mounting hole now provides the operator assurance that the harrow frame will be in the correct level operating position before adjustments are ever made within the arena. 
The JD Special 2 Row harrow was primarily designed for use in dirt arenas such as barrel racing; and team penning, however, this harrow has made its mark in the Dressage, Jumping, and Flat Work arenas.
·     The two rows of S-tynes provide twice the working accomplishment in one pass so that tractor time is reduced.

·     The leveling Float Pan will provide light surface compaction and smoothing behind the harrow, leaving a wonderfully finished surface.

·     The Harrow rides on wide floatation tires, which help avoid compaction, as well as provide additional depth control and base protection.

·     Depth adjustment, via the turnbuckle for ultimate control, ranges from zero to four inches, depending upon your preference.

Although the JD Special does a wonderful job, it is now considered our “entry level’ model. 
This harrow may be the best choice for the novice operator or the facility with a tighter budget.

About the S-Tyne Systems: 
The JD Special and the Red Master Harrow is equipped with an S-Tyne bar system which is fixed to the harrow frame. Tooth depth adjustment is achieved by using the turnbuckle to ‘pivot’ the S-Tynes bars into position.  S-tyne spacing and tooth entry is not as precise as on the JD Eee Z Harrows because of the interruption of the S-Tyne bar lever and Tyne bar bearings that assemble the S-Tyne mechanism to the harrow frame.  Years ago, a “stop” was welded into place to hinder operators from over adjusting and extending the S-Tynes out of alignment for proper function.

The S-Tyne and Coil Tine rack system of the JD Eee Z is a “link & lever” system, with up and down action, which keeps the S-Tynes at the optimal angle for proper tooth entry, at all times, regardless of depth adjustment. 
With the rack system, an improved pattern of tooth spacing has been achieved, which leads to better tooth entry, an impressive coverage, and an overall improved consistency to that of other featured  harrows.

The JD Eee Z rack system provides all harrows within the line with a depth adjustment range of zero to seven inches.  The depth adjustment is accomplished with the use of the safe and simple turnbuckle, which will provide the operator complete control in adjusting the S-Tyne depth for maximum air-pocket, “or cush”.  Additional adjustment may be achieved via tractor hydraulics.
